After nearly five years away from Dunkeswell, the KMS team made their return to the technical Devon circuit last weekend for another round of fast, competitive British karting. With a mix of unfamiliarity and determination, drivers Eli and Alex used Friday’s test sessions to refamiliarise themselves with the layout and sharpen their pace ahead of race day.
Both drivers showed promise during Friday practice, just missing a few tenths as they dialled into the track and got the most out of the setup. With lap times steadily improving, the team went into Saturday’s race programme feeling confident.
Saturday’s heats were fiercely competitive, as expected, but the KMS duo held their own and delivered solid results. Alex managed to qualify P14 for the final, putting him in a strong position to move forward. Unfortunately, motorsport can be brutal, and his final didn’t go to plan. After being caught up in someone else’s crash early on, Alex dropped down the order, but didn’t give up – instead, he dug deep and clocked fast, consistent lap times that would’ve comfortably placed him inside the top ten. It wasn’t the finish he deserved, but the pace was definitely there.
Eli started further back in P24 for the final but put on a clinic in racecraft. Determined to move forward, he made up a staggering 17 places to finish around P7 by the chequered flag. It was one of the standout drives of the day and proof that the work behind the scenes – from setup to mindset – is all coming together.
In a grid stacked with talent, the team leave Dunkeswell with their heads high and plenty to build on. Both drivers showed grit, speed and race intelligence in challenging conditions, and the data gathered gives the team great insight heading into the next round.
With no racing scheduled this weekend, the team are taking a short break to rest, reset and recharge. The next stop is PF International in July, one of the highlights of the UK karting calendar.
